The Asbury Park City Council has approved the final version of the redevelopment plan to guide improvements of the mile long Main Street corridor.  As it stands right now the plan calls for fives zones, starting with new civic, residential and office buildings forming a gateway at the south end of Main Street.  Going north the areas are the community shopping zone, the Asbury Avenue gateway, the Sunset Park zone and another gateway at the north end of town.  The plan also calls for a new city hall, 500 parking spaces, and office and residential buildings up to eight storys high.  The intent is to also reduce Main Street’s four lanes down to two lanes, one north bound and one south bound with a center median for loading and turning lanes at intersection.  The reduction in lanes will also provide for bicycle lanes. This is great news for Asbury Park and Main Street, this will bring a new and respectable look for the city that is clearly moving forward.

The state Supreme Court has said no to both sides in the court battle over the use of eminent domain in Long Branch, declining to hear the appeals of the oceanfront property owners fighting to keep there homes and of the city seeking to vindicate its procedures. The courts refusal to enter the case decided October 31st but made public November 6th could open the way for a settlement of the dispute, which Mayor Adam Schneider has said he favors.

This is the latest development in the long standing struggle between property owners of the Marine Terrace, Ocean Terrace, Seaview Avenue (MTOTSA) area and city officials who hoped to build the second phase of beachfront North,  It means the case now goes back before Judge Lawrence M. Lawson, sitting in Freehold.
